Randy Ser

DIRECTOR/PRODUCER

Randy Ser is an Emmy Award-winning production designer, director, and producer with extensive experience in feature films and episodic television with Disney, Warner Bros., Universal, ABC, NBC, Comedy Central, and BET+.

RANDY SER was born in New York City and raised in Miami, Florida. He attended The Florida State University School of Theater, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in acting and a Master of Fine Arts degree in directing magna cum laude.

As a director, Mr. Ser directed and co-produced the low-budget, found-footage horror movie, CRUISER. This movie represents another step in the evolution of the wildly popular found-footage genre and stars Tony-Award winning Broadway and film star Shuler Hensley.

Randy has staged numerous theatrical productions, including Tennessee Williams’ SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER, THE FRUGAL DICTUM, ZIPPO GETS A RUB, and a Southeastern touring production of AN EVENING WITH MARK TWAIN, which he co-produced, as well.

After moving to Los Angeles, Mr. Ser directed in-house productions for Paramount Pictures and served as the second unit director for the pilot episode of NBC’s dramatic series AGAINST THE GRAIN and for a season of the Universal Television/UPN series THE BURNING ZONE.

In 2001, Randy Ser made his feature film directorial debut with ALL YOU NEED, starring Kellie Martin (ER), Janet Carroll (RISKY BUSINESS, FORCES OF NATURE), and Robert Pine (CHiPS, INDEPENDENCE DAY). ALL YOU NEED won the Best Feature Film prize at the Savannah Film and Video Festival, as well as the Audience Award at the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival. The film also received a commendation at the Prism Awards for socially conscious productions. Porchlight Entertainment signed on as the worldwide sales agent for ALL YOU NEED. After a regional theatrical release of the film, the Lifetime Channel bought the cable premiere window as well as an extension for the Lifetime Movie Network.

During his career, Mr. Ser has worked on over fifteen feature films and numerous television productions and commercials. He has been active with major studios such as Disney, Universal, and Warner Brothers, as well as independents such as Cannon Films, Roger Corman, and Crown International.

Some of his most prominent work has been as production designer for the feature films THE MIGHTY DUCKS, WILD HEARTS CAN’T BE BROKEN, and DARKMAN. In 1998, Mr. Ser was awarded an Emmy for his production design of THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY’S presentation of RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA, which was produced by and starred Whitney Houston and co-starred Brandi as Cinderella.

Mr. Ser also production designed the hit television series MY NAME IS EARL and THE MIDDLE. Some of his most current design work has been for ABC’s Christmas Movie, SAME TIME NEXT CHRISTMAS and THE MS. PAT SHOW for BET+. His upcoming design projects include Comedy Central’s 2021 Christmas movie, HOT MESS HOLIDAY, about two American-born South Asian women living in New York City who are figuring out what life looks like when you’re not quite a model minority nor a Bollywood star fighting terrorism on a network show, but just two best friends dealing with the reality of the adult world. Mr. Ser is currently designing Season 2 of The Ms. PAT SHOW, starring Pat Williams, one of the foremost African-American female stand-up comedians. Mr. Ser also directed the second unit on the feature films DIRT and BENNETT’S WAR for Warner Brothers/Forrest Films.
